Minister Justyne Caruana

“The agriculture sector plays an important role in society and this manual would definitely enhance not only our knowledge about organic farming, but is a welcome and needed addition to the current material available to our agribusiness educators, and a wealth of information for all agribusiness students”, said Minister for Education Justyne Caruana when she presented with the manual by author Mario Joseph Salerno, President of the Malta Organic Agricultural Movement.

The manual ‘Biedja Organika għal Ġejjieni Sostenibbli’ addresses various topics and will be used by the three agribusiness schools. It sheds light on different agricultural practices such as organic agriculture, biodiversity, soil bio-dynamics, conventional agriculture, vertical gardens, hydroponics, aquaponics, agro-ecology, and other related subjects concerning climate change, etc.

The publishing of the manual book has been financed 80 per cent by the Galxlokk Foundation and 20 per cent by Malta Organic Agriculture Movement. The manual book can be borrowed from public libraries and school libraries will have a copy in the coming weeks.

Various other topics were discussed during the meeting, including the funding of small green projects under the Green Infrastructure Funding Scheme Measure 4 issued by the Galmajjistral Foundation and for which schools in the northern region of Malta were eligible to apply. Galmajjistral is an action group foundation representing the north-west areas in Malta.
