Three-star hotels wanting to make use of the COVID subsidy scheme for incoming tourists can join an online Q&A session being hosted Tuesday evening to find out more about how their establishment can benefit.

The Q&A session will be held on Zoom on Tuesday 20th April at 18:00.

Attendees are invited to learn more about the Scheme for Free Independent Travellers, part of Malta’s Tourism Recovery Plan.

This is one of a series of such sessions being organised by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) to clarify conditions related to the Tourism Recovery Plan.

Announced by Minister Clayton Bartolo earlier this month, the scheme has an allocated budget of €3.5 million, to be spent over 35,000 tourists.

Hotels wishing to participate must declare their interest with the MTA and evenly match the subsidy granted by the Government.

The Government will subsidise tourists by €50 if they opt to stay in a three-star hotel, which amount must be matched by the hotel for a total grant of €100, deductible on their final bill.

International tourists choosing to stay at hotels in Gozo will benefit from a further 10 per cent of these grants, to make up for its double insularity.

Tourists are only eligible for the scheme if they book their stay directly though the hotel’s website.

The subsidy may be used to cover the cost of accommodation, food and drink, and other ancillary services within the hotel.
