The electric vehicle grant for the purchase of new electric vehicles will follow 2022 and be maintained at €11,000.
First reported by BusinessNow.mt last week, the grant may go up to €12,000 should the buyer scrap their old vehicle.
The same counts for the scheme incentivising the purchase of mopeds, pedelecs and electric bikes.
This year’s grant for plug-in hybrids was utilised by May 2022, however Government is guaranteeing that all those who purchased a plug-in by end-May and is due to have the vehicle delivered in 2023 will be given the grant.
This measure is costing Government some €20 million.
Car registration on EVs and plug-ins
Electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid buyers will continue to have their registration tax exempted, and will continue to be exempt from paying annual road tax for a period of five years, starting from the date of registration.
Charging pillars
More charging pillars will be installed, reaching an additional 1,200 pillars by 2024. Currently, there are a total of 340.
Companies will be encouraged to electrify their fleet by being granted interest-free loans for the purchase of such vehicles and the installation of charging stations.
