Gozo Highspeed has announced that it has cancelled trips scheduled for Tuesday (today) and Wednesday due to unfavourable weather conditions.

The service stated that as a result, the final trip from Valletta will take place at 11.45am on Tuesday, while the last trip from Mġarr will be at 12.45pm.

“All other scheduled trips thereafter are cancelled,” it stated.

This represents a change in plans for Gozo Highspeed, having originally announced on Monday (yesterday) morning that the final trip from Valletta for Tuesday would be at 3.45pm, while the one from Mġarr will leave at 4.45pm.

Additionally, all of the trips scheduled for Wednesday have now been cancelled because of “unfavourable sea conditions.”

On Tuesday, according to the Malta International Airport Met Office as at the time of writing, Malta is expected to face wind speed varying between five and six, that then becomes six and seven.

This high wind speed is expected to persist on Wednesday, with it having the same forecast as Tuesday.

The news of the cancelled trips was met by annoyance by users on social media, noting the sudden change of schedules, not allowing them to plan their commutes to and from Malta and Gozo.

“It is not a reliable service, I’m sorry to say. We cannot plan when to use the service. This is even the case for tourists, it does not help at all,” one person said.

Gozo Highspeed is a fast ferry service that was born as part of merged operations between Virtu Ferries and Gozo Fast Ferry.
