The strong tourist arrivals registered over the first half of the year have been welcomed by hotels, which saw their total number of guests rise 14.8 per cent over the same period of 2023.
In total, 1.2 million persons stayed at Malta’s hotels, hostels and guesthouses (hereafter referred to simply as hotels) between January and June 2024. These figures do not take into account holiday apartment rentals.
Collectively, they spent over 5.0 million nights, a 15.2 increase over the 4.3 million nights booked in the first six months of 2024.
The net use of bed-places went up by 2.2 percentage points to 59.4 per cent.
Looking at the second quarter of the year, net-use stood at 69.1 per cent, up by 0.7 percentage points when compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
During the period from April to June, the largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, with 47.9 per cent of the total.
Malta’s bed stock
On a national level, during June 2024, there were 317 active collective accommodation establishments with a net capacity of 21,237 bedrooms and 48,687 bed-places.
This represents an increase of 3,756, or 8.3 per cent, over the level in June 2023.
