Palazzo Mdina/ Sotheby's

A 17th century palazzo, nestled in the heart of Mdina, is still up for grabs and is being sold for €7 million according to one agency.

The palazzo is listed by Perry Estate Agents and Malta Sotheby’s International Realty, with the former listing the palazzo as being on sale for €7 million

Both property agents expressed the palazzo’s commercial potential to be converted into a boutique hotel, due to its size, characteristics, and its prime location – what was once Malta’s capital city and a world heritage site.

The property has been listed by Perry since 2019, was once featured on the May 2019 edition of Il-Bizzilla magazine as well as Perry’s 60th magazine issue published in 2022.

Additionally, the property was also featured in Real Portico, a German real estate portal founded in 2017 that advertises historic refurbished properties across European destinations.

Described as one of “the most beautiful buildings on the Maltese islands”, the Medieval palazzo accounts for 1,190 square metres in space, positioned on three streets. The “hidden gem” is surrounded by converted traditional homes and is accessed through a piazza dedicated solely to the residence.

Though uninhabited and needs attention, the interior of the palazzo has unique features that transport its visitors back in time.

This includes decorative stone works, high arches, an old “historic” kitchen, different marbled floors reminiscent of traditional Maltese homes, a shelter, wells, French doors, a spiral staircase (garigor), high and richly painted ceilings as well as multiple windows with views of the quaint streets of Mdina.

In addition to its 20 bedrooms and multiple bathrooms, the multilevel palazzo has its own chapel that can also be accessed through its own entrance and a two-car garage.

The un-named palazzo’s stairwells lead to a ‘Sala Nobile’ overlooking the property’s courtyard.

This property was described by one of the agencies as an “immense beauty with the potential of attracting the most discerning of travellers looking to savour a stay at this unique address.”
