The Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, and Trade, Ian Borg, signed a number of cooperation agreements on behalf of Malta with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, Shirley Ayokor Botchewy. These agreements are intended to strengthen cooperation in fishing, youth, and sports sectors among other sectors.
The bilateral relationship between the two countries has also been strengthened through the third edition of the Malta – Ghana Business Forum on 17th January and through the inauguration of the High Commission of Malta in Ghana on 18th January.
Minister Shirley Ayokor Botchewy said she looked forward for these agreements to come into force for the benefit of both people and thanked the Government of Malta for donating over 130,000 COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic.
Dr Borg explained that over 50 Maltese business representatives were part of Malta’s delegation to Ghana and that there were already around 24 Maltese companies exporting to Ghana, with an average of €28 million in products.
The effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) was emphasised by Dr Borg, who went on to say that it would increase business opportunities in the sectors of manufacturing and e-commerce.
