Ian Borg

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, Ian Borg, has announced an €18 million investment to upgrade the Gudja roundabout, construct a new flyover for those travelling between Kirkop, Mqabba, Qrendi, Zurrieq and Safi, and build two new tunnels, to improve access to the Airport and Freeport.

The project is expected to include a pedestrian walkway which Infrastructure Malta will be building along the same road, and a roundabout design that will offer safer facilities for road users as well as cyclists.

Dr Borg suggested that the investment “will ease the life of many people”, and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to “the safety of the people,” and that it “is another proof that this is a Government for the people”

With this investment, he said, the Government will be making another step towards their vision of “greener infrastructure through lesser emissions as a result of lesser traffic and the adoption of cleaner and more sustainable modes of transport through more walkways, improved public transport amenities and safer cycle paths.”

Infrastructure Malta begins this project as it approaches the completion of two other major infrastructure projects it was undertaking, the Santa Lucia Underpass, and the Marsa Junction Project.
