Malta saw 217,487 tourists visit the island in November 2023 alone, a sharp rise of 24.7% when compared to the same month last year.

According to National Statistics Office (NSO) figures, a total of 189,607 inbound tourists visited Malta for holiday purposes, and 21,953 tourists came for business purposes. The largest share of inbound tourists were aged between 25 and 44 (41.7 per cent), followed by the 45-64 age bracket (34.5 per cent). United Kingdom, Italian and German residents made up 40.4 per cent of total inbound tourists.

Total nights spent went up by 14.7 per cent when compared to November 2022, almost reaching 1.4 million nights. The largest share of guest nights (86.9 per cent) was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 6.3 nights.

Total tourist expenditure surpassed €178.2 million, an increase of 23.6 per cent over the corresponding month in 2022. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €129.

January-November 2023

Inbound tourists for the first 11 months of 2023 amounted to 2,816,641, an increase of 31 per cent over the same period in 2022. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 22.6 per cent, almost reaching 19.2 million nights.

Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €2.6 billion, 33.7 per cent higher than that recorded for 2022. Total expenditure per capita increased to €907 from €889 in 2022.
