Yorgen Fenech has officially been issued with a Bill of Indictment (attached below) and will be standing trial for the 2017 murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The former Tumas Group CEO and business mogul is being charged with complicity in murder and criminal association. In addition, for the charge of complicity in the murder, the indictment requests lifetime imprisonment, followed by 20 to 30 years of imprisonment for the latter charge.
The Bill of Indictment against Mr Fenech was filed in court on Wednesday by Deputy Attorney General Philip Galea Farrugia. The move wraps up a lengthy legal process that first began in November 2019 when he was first charged. It must be noted, however, that the compilation stage may be reopened should new evidence come to light.
One of the three alleged hitmen, Vince Muscat, has already been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder. The other two, brothers George and Alfred Degiorgio, have pleaded not guilty and will face trial.
