MCA RATEL

A delegation from the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) was invited by the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services of the Republic of Serbia (RATEL) to participate in a study visit in Serbia with the aim of strengthening their cooperation in the field of electronic communications.

The visit consisted of a three-day programme filled with several site visits and presentations.

The Maltese delegation, comprising of various experts in the field of spectrum management and technology led by the MCA’s CEO Jesmond Bugeja, visited RATEL’s head office in Belgrade, where they were greeted by RATEL’s Director Dragan Pejović and his team.

Both authorities recognise the importance of extending their friendly relationship and to collaborate in the areas falling under their remit. To this end, Mr Bugeja and Mr Pejović signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of electronic communications and postal services regulation.

Mr Bugeja described the signing of the MoU as, “a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the MCA and RATEL and in promoting the development of the communications sector.”

During their study visit, the MCA delegation was shown around various technical sites operated by RATEL focusing on the radiofrequency spectrum monitoring systems. Of particular interest was RATEL’s solution intended to monitor the radio spectrum in urban areas.

MCA RATEL

In the past years, both the MCA and RATEL invested in their equipment and tools for monitoring the efficient and safe use of the radiofrequency spectrum. They also visited the PE ETV Avala Tower, a telecommunications tower exceeding 200m in height located outside the city centre of Belgrade.

The Maltese delegation’s visit to Serbia was deemed to be a successful continuation of the collaboration between the two regulatory authorities and it followed a visit made by the Serbian delegation in Malta last year.

Apart from collaboration on a bilateral level, the MCA and RATEL participate together in a number of EU fora, particularly in the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC).
