On Thursday (tomorrow), farmers will once again unite to drive from Ta’ Qali to Valletta for the second national protest.
The farmers will be rallying once more against EU farming law whilst also taking the opportunity to present local Government with proposals to diminish the impact of the imposed European legislation.
European farmers have been participating in large-scale protests all over Europe against rising costs, cheap imports and a slew of environmental regulations they say are threatening their livelihoods.
A few weeks ago, farmers protested against restrictions on the use of certain synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, as well as a proposal to incentivise leaving some land empty to encourage the growth of native flora, among other notable topics.
Għaqda Bdiewa Attivi explained that on Thursday 15th February, farmers with agricultural and non-agricultural vehicles will leave Ta’ Qali car park, normally used for the farmers’ market, at 11:45 and drive towards Valletta.
The route includes passing through Attard, Mrieħel Bypass, Marsa-Ħamrun Bypass, Aldo Moro Road (Marsa), Blata l-Bajda, Floriana and then in Valletta (Triq l-Għassara tal-Għeneb) where a press conference will be held.
