In a press release, the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works announced that the Tal-Barrani road project is nearing completion, with 70 per cent of the work already finished. The project is designed to improve traffic management in the areas of Tal-Barrani, Ħal Tarxien, and Bulebel.

During an on-site visit, engineers from Infrastructure Malta shared that the next phase of the project will focus on rebuilding Triq San Anard/Triq il-Gudja, including the addition of 500 square meters of new landscaping. As a result, Infrastructure Malta will implement a new temporary traffic plan starting on 3rd September, which will remain in effect until the beginning of the upcoming school year.

The ministry outlined the following traffic diversions: vehicles coming from Ħaż-Żabbar or Fgura heading towards Ħal Tarxien or Marsa will need to use Triq Ħal Tarxien, then Triq il-Ħotba, and turn right. Meanwhile, those traveling from Ħaż-Żabbar or Fgura towards Żejtun or Birżebbuġa will be directed to take Triq il-Ħotba and turn left.

Minister Chris Bonnet emphasised that this project is aimed at improving the organisation of the area to reduce traffic congestion for both drivers and cyclists. “Once completed, the project will feature an upgraded traffic light system that is integrated for better traffic management. Additionally, new pedestrian crossings will be introduced to enhance road safety,” Mr. Bonnet added.
