WATCH: Second round of €100 COVID vouchers may now be downloaded digitally

Prime Minister Robert Abela together with Economy and Industry Minister Silvio Schembri on Thursday shared details of the second round of COVID vouchers, intended to boost the local economy and encourage spending.

The €50 million scheme will see €100 worth of vouchers disbursed to citizens and residents, with a valid residence permit, in Malta aged 16 and over.  The vouchers may be used from 7th June until 15th September.

Those who turned 16 by April 2021 will also be eligible to receive the vouchers.

Four red vouchers of €15 each will be disbursed to be used at restaurants, bars, accommodation, diving schools and Malta Tourism Authority licensed accommodation. In addition, four blue vouchers of €10 each will be granted and can be redeemed at retail shops and services, beauty and hair services, sports clubs, gyms, museums, arts and cultural centres.

This year, vouchers can be downloaded digitally through one’s smartphone from today until 4th June, from here. Those with an eID may register on the website, alternately, citizens and residents can use their ID card or residence permit to create an account with Mimcol.

Digital vouchers may also be transferred to other people.

Those who prefer a physical voucher need not worry, Minister Schembri said, as the system will see who did not download their voucher and will proceed to send them in the post physically.

Leaflets will be disbursed across Malta and Gozo showing clear steps on how to download the vouchers. Minister Schembri encouraged the use of digital vouchers as they cannot get damaged and people will be less likely to be in a situation where they are at a shop or business and forgot their vouchers at home.

As a business eligible to receive the voucher, what should I do?

Minister Schembri explained businesses that received the vouchers in the first round do not need to do anything other than ensure their credit card remains valid.
